THE COOK’S CORNER: SLOW COOKER APPLE DESSERT
My name is Linda Beall and I am a happy transplant from California. Having four seasons every year is a wonderful change, especially all of the refreshing lush greens in the s
ummer and the breathtaking fiery autumn displays everywhere. (I told you I was happy to be here! *smile*)
With the cooler temperatures, I look forward to soups, stews, comfort foods and just about anything in the slow cooker! I try to use wholesome/real ingredients whenever possible, but I also look for quick recipes with few ingredients. So, here is a recent discovery which we enjoyed, both for the taste AND the amazing aroma permeating the house. Yum!! NOTE: Please be sure to use a high quality pie filling, as the store brands will not taste as good.
Ingredients:
2 cans of apple pie filling (high quality)
1 box of spice cake mix
2 sticks of butter, whole or cut into cubes
Directions:
Pour pie filling into bottom of slow cooker and spread evenly. Pour dry cake mix evenly over filling. (Do not stir anything. I know, but trust me.) Place butter on top of cake mix, either as whole sticks or else evenly distribute the cubes. Put the lid on the crock pot and cook on HIGH for 2 hours. The butter will melt and permeate the cake mix then the whole thing will bubble a bit & smell fabulous. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a drizzle of cream, or all by itself. Servings depend on the shape of the crock, but we easily got 8-10 from ours.
