THE COOK’S CORNER: PONCHE DE FRUTAS DE NAVIDAD (CHRISTMAS FRUIT PUNCH)
Hello. My name is Carola Suyen and I've been a part of Trinidad since 2011. This is a Christmas recipe from my country, Guatemala. Every time I make it, it reminds me of my country, my family and all of the different kinds of food we get to eat on Christmas Eve!! So, I hope you can make it and enjoy it as much as I do.
Blessings!!
PONCHE DE FRUTAS DE NAVIDAD
CHRISTMAS FRUIT PUNCH
Ingredients
2 gallons of water
2 cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
2 cups of sugar (or more as needed)
1 bag of mixed dry fruit
1 pineapple
6 apples of any kind
1/2 lb. of grapes
Directions
Start by pouring the water, sugar, cinnamon and cloves into a heavy, large pot. Set on medium high heat.
While the water is reaching the boiling point, peel and cut all fruit into bite-size pieces and then pour them into the large pot.
Let the ingredients boil for about 20 minutes until all fruit is soft. Taste and add more sugar if needed.
(For better taste, you can boil the pineapple peel in a separate pot with water, sugar and cinnamon. When it boils, strain and pour that water into the punch.)
ENJOY HOT!!!!
