TRINITYWOMEN ON A MISSION: Heart for the Homeless/The Power of One!
When I was teaching at Pikesville Middle School in 2008, our school was in the midst of conducting a special toiletry drive for the homeless in the Baltimore County area. It was called “HEART FOR THE HOMELESS”. We teachers and students ran this toiletry project for one month in our school. The students were encouraged to bring in shampoo, soaps, toothbrushes, etc. especially for the needs of the women and children in the area homeless shelters.
After a month, the campaign ended and I asked the guidance office if we could continue to help the people in these shelters. They still had ongoing needs beyond that one month. When it was determined that the school would not sponsor the project any longer, I decided to take it upon myself to start a homeless campaign. I made up some flyers for the people in our condo development. The flyers stated that I would like for them to donate soaps, lotions, creams, etc. to meet the needs of the homeless student population in our area.
Lots of people came to bring me all kinds of toiletries. I, in turn, would take them over to the shelter in our community. I got family and friends involved in the donation process also.
A few years ago, I talked to the leaders of the girls’ ministries at Trinity to ask them to become involved by setting up donation boxes. They decided to make a project of collecting donations for the homeless. They collected diapers, wipes and lots of toiletries.
For the past two summers, I’ve gotten neighbors, family and friends to donate school supplies for the homeless children. We’ve had a tremendous and overwhelming response! I then take these supplies to the local shelter.
It has been super rewarding to be involved in this ministry. You would be so surprised to see how God can use the power of one! The Word says, “He who is kind to the poor, lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done”. (Proverbs 19:17)
If you would like to donate school supplies to the children living in a local homeless shelter, please contact me at tcjoel@hotmail.com. Thank you.
Baltimore: Your Mission Conference Report
On behalf of TrinityWomen outreach coordinator, Carola Strolger, and the entire leadership team, thank you for your support of our missions conference that was held on Saturday, June 13th. The Lord was very gracious and touched the hearts of His daughters to make both a financial and personal investment in the lives of the needy. We were able to send a total of $1,050.00 to the two presenting ministries. Due to the designation of contributions by some donors, Araminta Freedom Initiative received $550.00 and HopeSprings was given a check in the amount of $500.00. Praise the Lord!
Stay tuned for details about how we plan to continue our partnership with these two vital ministries.
